2D Sense: 2D bar code reader application for iPhone

with 4 comments

2D Sense, formerly known as iMatrix, is a 2D bar code reader application for your jailbroken iPhone that enables it to decode QR Code, Datamatrix and ShotCode. As noted at the iMatrix blog, the next version should be “compatible with iPhone’s 1.1.3 firmware and prepared for official SDK.”

While it can presumably be used to exploit the user’s iPhone, a nifty feature of the app is that it can recognize iPhone API’s encoded within the codes and open web links via Safari, add contacts to your Address Book, add events to Calendar, add new notes to Notes, and initiate new e-mail or phone calls.

Back on May 25, 2008, iMatrix was re-branded to 2D Sense, and was made available as a free download from Apple Inc.’s App Store on July 27, 2008.

  1. Based off the award winning Lavasphere technology developed in Germany by Gavitec, the NeoReader features NeoMedia’s patented resolution technology combined with Gavitec’s ultra-small footprint and platform independent algorithms. It is able to read and decipher all common non-proprietary 2D codes (Data Matrix, QR, Aztec, Maxi) as well as URL embedded 2D codes and all 1D UPC/EAN/Code 128 open source codes. The NeoReader supports direct and indirect code linking, which guarantees maximum interoperability with already existing platforms like 2D Data Matrix Semacodes, and Japanese QR links. This allows the user to click on a variety of codes with a single application installed on their mobile device.

  2. As of this posting the iPhone is not supported by NeoReader.

Also accessing the program by entering http://get.neoreader.com/ into the browser of my desktop-bound Mac does not yield the expected result; the web page does not allow you to enter keywords and barcodes to access the same content available to users of NeoReader mobile application. Presumably entering the URI into iPhone’s Safari app will result in the same.

I suspect iPhone support is to come shortly due to the mobile device’s growing popularity and Apple Inc’s recent release of the iPhone SDK.

  4. Killian – You can create QR Code by visiting kaywa.com. For other types of 2D barcodes try a web search for “2d barcode generator”.
